First Tuesday Family Nights
Please come join us on March 30, 2010 for our monthly First Tuesday event.The orginally planned event was rescheduled due to inclement weather. Spaghetti meals will begin at 6:00 for $1 per plate. The following activities are scheduled:
Performance: First Grade Students
Child Development: Storytelling - Creating Your Own Book
Other Activities: STC Reader's Theatre, Writing Grades 3-5, Math at Home for Ages 4-7, Single Gender Presentation for Fourth Grade parents
Annual School Bookfair
The annual school book fair will be held March 23- April 2, 2010. Once again you will find a great collection of high quality, low cost books to add to your personal library collection. There is nothing more exciting than finding a great new book to read or share. We look forward to and appreciate your support. All proceeds from the book fair are used to benefit students attending Dover Elementary School. There are so many reasons why we should strive to be honest with ourselves and the people around us. Being honest can be difficult. In many situation, lying seeems like the easiest and best solution to a problem. But no matter how deep the truth seems to be buried, it always seems to find its way to the surface. most of the time people are more upset that you were dishonest than they would have been if you just told the truth in the first place.
Character Book of the Month
The Show and Tell Lion- by Barbara Abercrombie
Instead of admitting thathe didn't bring anything for show and tell, Matthew tells the class that he has a pet lion. As things begin to unfold Matthew has to tell more fibs to cover his original story. Matthew learns a valuable lesson about being honest and with the help of his mother he begins to regain the trust of his teacher and his classmates.
Save the Children
Several students from Save the Children (STC) took some time to help beautify the front entrance of our school. Mrs. Colter, a foster grandparent, helped the young men plant four blue star junipers in containers. This is just another way that STC is helping to make Dover Elementary a great place for children to learn and prosper.
Over the past four years, STC has provided books and reading programs for our students. They are also assisting relief efforts in Haiti. Providing a donation for their efforts would be an excellent way to pay it forward. You can visit their website to make a donation at

MAP Testing
Students at Dover have taken Measures of Academic Progress(MAP) testing in December 2009. This computer- based test measures a student’s skills in math, reading and language usage. The results of this test provide teachers with data to boost your child’s academic progress.
