Dover Wins Red Carpet School Recognition!!
Mr. Smoak arrived this morning ( 5/18/09) with fresh flowers, a photographer, and GREAT NEWS! This is Dover Elementary School's first rise to state recognition as a RED CARPET SCHOOL!!!!
A special appreciation to our front desk staff who passed the test with the state department's caller, to Mrs. Kinsey who revised the application each year, to the custodians who may have been the employees who first greeted the unknown visitors on campus, to Mrs. Butler who may have given the inspectors posing as parents a tour of the school, and to the teachers and staff who may have shared a friendly, warm smile with a new face.
Great Job!

 Title I Planning Committee
The Title I planning committee meeting will be rescheduled for the beginning of next school year.
 No Book Left Unread
This summer students, faculty and staff will be participating in a summer reading program called No Book Left Unread. Each participant is encouraged to read as many pages as possible during summer vacation. After reading participants will record the number of pages they read on a reading log. This reading log will be collected at the end of the summer. The official start date is June 1, 2009. August 31, 2009, will be the last day to record entries on the reading log. All logs should be returned to the school media center. (Fifth Graders will submit their logs to the middle school media center.) So far 168 students and 13 faculty and staff members have signed up. So don’t forget to bring your student registration form back before school ends.
Breathe Better Dover Elementary School will be participating in an anti-idling program called Breathe Better or B2 starting this school year. This program will help reduce the amount of air pollution your children are exposed to from school buses and vehicles while on school grounds. We hope that all parents will support this effort by turning off your vehicle’s engine during morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up. Children are at a higher risk from air pollution exposure because they spend more time outdoors. Children are more likely to have asthma, which can be aggravated by certain air pollutants. Look for the new voluntary anti-idling policy in the student/parent handbook and for the new anti-idling signs around our school campus.
 First Tuesday Family Nights
The first Tuesday night of each month, Dover hosts Family Night. This evening features a snack meal, student performances and informative break out sessions.
We thank you for your support and attendance during the 2008-2009 school year and look forward to a great 09-10 year!

From the Principal
Welcome to Dover Elementary School's webpage!
We have received several helpful suggestions on our parent survey (see link above). If you have not already done so, please take the time to complete one, We are already implementing several parent suggestions. If you have given us feedback, thank you!
One of those was related to principal updates. They were all posted on the site, but perhaps difficult to locate. A tab on the left of this page will now take you directly to those. As before, you may review all of them from the 08-09 school year.
We want your feedback, as always,. Specific suggestions on ways we can better serve you, our partners in education, helps us.
